I doubt there would be any difference. Friend...Ned,
I doubt there would be any difference. Friends of mine fish brown maxima for atlantics and steelhead and thew fish don't spook from the leader, so the line is a non-issue. If you are referring to presentation, I doubt the two systems, handled by a competent angler would have different presentation charichteristics. I personally find it easier by far to control the swing if I am using a long belly, but a skilled scando caster would probably set up the cast a bit differently and achieve the same fast or slow swing.Erik Helmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00727530868264488710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918514418757933899.post-91436401292116365432011-07-20T21:50:38.788-05:002011-07-20T21:50:38.788-05:00Hey Erik,

If you are fishing a pool with a long belly line and making 85 ft casts (so a 15ft leader and 70ft of fly line belly are swinging through the water); and I fish behind you with a shooting head (15 ft leader 40ft head and 30ft of running line). Would the fish see the fly in an identical manner, or something different due to the thin diameter of running line vs the wide floating section in the last 30 ft of fly line? No right or wrong answer I am just interested in what your take would be.

Take Care,
NedNednoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918514418757933899.post-43578501917841495722011-07-14T07:58:38.538-05:002011-07-14T07:58:38.538-05:00Hi Ned!

In spring in the Midwest our waters are cold and running fast and high and I find dryline efforts confined to the rare situation. I tend to fish 12' polyleaders on a 55' Delta most of the time, and find it does just fine. I have not fished for Pacific salmon other than in the great lakes, but have hooked a few anyway in the PNW. Silvers I would dryline if possible for the sport, while kings would be down and dirty. Never fished for Atlantics, but plan a trip soon. (Not soon enough...)
One of the best sinktip-dryline combos is the CND GPS line. It is a midbelly, but allows one to speycast and use sinktips at the same time. Cheers,
ErikErik Helmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00727530868264488710noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918514418757933899.post-7804498146904525112011-07-13T23:46:53.162-05:002011-07-13T23:46:53.162-05:00Hey Erik,

If the answer answer is yes, are you using a long belly, or something else? I know you posted about an Atlantic Salmon trip a couple of years ago, and was wondering do you fish for them often? Do you ever fish for Pacific Salmon? Hopefully you do not find the technical questions annoying, I am just trying to get a handle on your thought process while you about to fish a pool. Anyway, I wish you the best.

NedNed Percivalnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3918514418757933899.post-49831106444901559772011-06-18T15:35:40.082-05:002011-06-18T15:35:40.082-05:00Great post with some very interesting insights for...Great post with some very interesting insights for a newbie in this world!
